Burt's Texas Garden: We're back this week. We'll have CORN DIP (making a double batch, but they go quick so you may want to reserve yours in advance), we'll also have DILL PICKLES, CHOW-CHOW, PEPPERS, BASIL, and OKRA. Come see us!

LAVERNE'S VEGETABLE PATCH - This week I will have OKRA, PEPPERS, SALSA AND FARM FRESH EGGS.

Munkebo Farm will have acorn squash, butternut squash, patty pan squash, magenta spreen (like spinach), cucumbers, okra, lemon basil, sweet basil, spicy globe basil, oregano, concord grape preserves, fig/grape and sugar free fig/grape preserves, fresh figs, organic apple pie, duck eggs, lemon basil pesto and artichoke dip.

Bikkurim Farms will bring organic, farm raised, whole chickens and eggs, homemade spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, hot sauce and tomato soup. From the gardens squash, tomatoes, okra, cucumbers, unshelled black eyed peas, watermelon & potatoes.

Gordon Taylor has for the market this week: Cantaloupe, small sweet okra, hot or sweet peppers, tomatoes, cashaw, butternut, & spaghetti squash. From the jelly cabinet Gordon has home made fig preserves, plum jam, peach jelly & pickled beets.

Green Grass Meats has joined the Manor Farmers' market family and will be attending both the Wednesday market downtown and the Saturday market at New Tech High School. David will be bringing us antibiotic and growth hormone free beef from their fields right here in Central Texas including two pastures in Manor. Steaks, ground beef, roasts, summer sausage, jerky and beer sticks. For more information on their practices go to Green Grass Meats dot com.

Baker Pat will be at the market with baked goods including individual apple, peach or strawberry pies, banana nut bread, brownies, peach cake, oatmeal raisin walnut cookies, pickled squash and strawberry butter.

The Goodwin Homestead will have stained glass mosaics for home and garden. Beautiful hung in a window, useful for doors stops or bookends and make a nice garden accent. Uniquely embellished, hand made, felted wool bags.

part-time kennel assistant M-F 8am-12p and every other weekend.
Position requires a love of pets, a great attitude, cleaning and care of
hospital and animals, attention to detail, and self-motivation. Apply

Just to add a few more items to the happenings in Manor. These
announcements are all regarding functions at the East Rural Community
Center. If you are interested in volunteering we always have many
opportunities to help out the folks in our neck of the woods. The Center
is located near the library in Manor at 600 West Carrie Manor Street.

August 14th= parade day, kids decorate bikes, wagons, skateboards, etc….
and compete for several category prizes, also cake walk, fishing game,
and other games, will start at 10:00 am at the community center at 600
West Carrie Manor

Mata Tamales are made by three generations of the Mata family here in
Manor. Francesca will also have empanadas. Place your specials orders with

A Wild Soap Bar is back this week with their brand new farms2market line of soaps featuring local, natural ingredients: Cucumber, Tomato Basil, Bison Bar and Honey G'oat. Come by and say hello. Smells are free!

I have been strongly encouraging the Capital Metro Transportation
Authority (CTMA) Board to hold a public meeting concerning the
transport of ethanol via rail through eastern Travis County, and how
residents may potentially be impacted by the transport of ethanol and
the ethanol facility.

As a result, the CMTA Board is hosting a public meeting on the ethanol
issue on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 6:30pm at the Gus Garcia Middle
School on 7414 Johnny Morris Road (see attachments). If youre
available on that date, I strongly encourage you to attend, and please
invite others that you know may be affected by this issue.

Munkebo Farm will have just dug red potatoes, Yukon gold potatoes, cucumbers, carrots, magenta spreen (like spinach), yellow squash, butternut squash, patty pan squash, lemon basil, sweet basil, grape-fig preserves, duck eggs, organic apple pie, balsamic vinaigrette and artichoke dip.

I've just got to say something about these new potatoes again. I'm changing the description to “JUST DUG POTATOES”. In just dug potatoes the sugars haven't had time to turn into starch. The flesh is smooth, creamy and sweet from the sugar. They take less time to cook. True “new” potatoes, not the ones in the grocery store they call new potatoes, have very, very thin skins. You can almost rub it off with your finger. As potatoes age their skins thicken, sugar turns to starch and texture becomes grainy. I'm just saying.

August 4th= GRANDKIDS DAY AT THE CENTER Grandparents BRING your grandkids for a lite lunch, pictures, and some crafts, coloring and more. Begins at 11:00 at the community center. Please RSVP 272-4627 so that we can be sure to have plenty of food.
