Sharon Bramblett will demonstrate an ancient spinning tool and a modern spinning wheel this week in honor of international Spinning and Weaving Week . Sharon shears her llamas once a year and has the fleece processed by Texas Fiber Mill near McDade. She then spins the clean fleece into yarn. In addition to her demonstration, Sharon will have samples of the fleece and spun yarn for Market visitors to enjoy. The ancient art of spinning connects us to our ancestors. Stop by the Manor Farmers Market this week to learn more about this traditional craft.

Frank Toussaint is a local beekeeper living in the Manor area. His "beeyards" are located in the Blake-Manor, Littig and FM 973 areas. Frank sells his local honey at the Manor Farmers Market on the first Wednesday of each month. He has been keeping bees for over 35 years and is more than happy to provide assistance to others wanting to learn. Stop by the Market to chat with Frank and take home some of his delicious local honey.

BBQ Cook-Off, Bake-Off, Two Frozen T-Shirt Contests, Antique Car Show, 50 Vendors, Local Artisans, Spinning Wheel Demonstrations, Parade 10AM Sat., Childrens Area including a petting zoo, pony rides, lots of kids games and a train, all day Saturday, Live Charity Auction by Rupert Ceder Sat. afternoon.

The Manor Lions Club has been serving the community of Manor Texas since 1954. We raise money for Lions scholarships, support the Lions Eye Bank of Central Texas, run Manor Lions Fest, hold bi-monthly fish frys at the Lions Club and run one of the few surviving Turkey Shoots in central Texas every fall.

Burt's Texas Garden: The fall garden is really looking good thanks to the recent rain. Lots of new plants in the ground, and pretty blooms everywhere! This week we will have Yellow Squash, Spaghetti Squash, Turnip Greens, Okra, Swiss Chard, Toscana Kale, and Peppers. In addition, we'll have Dill Pickles, Pickled Beets, Chow Chow, and Farm Fresh Eggs. Temporarily out of B&B pickles.

Laverne's Vegetable Patch: I will have eggs, salsa and YELLOW SQUASH. Little cukes are on my vines - maybe in a week or so.

Squash, Squash, Squash 'tis the season of squash. It won't last. By the time you think you can't eat one more bite it will be out of season. Here are some tips on what to do with left over cooked squash. One of my little ladies told me to just add an egg and some flour to the leftover squash and cook it up in some bacon grease like a pancake. Well, I took it a little further. Make up a batter, like a fritter batter or pancake batter, and try the following add ins:

Pumpkin Pie Spices-clove, cinnamon and nutmeg, then top it with Manor Honey for breakfast. Roasted pecans are good in this one.

Add Italian seasoning and top with a marinara or chopped tomatoes and basil.

Put in chopped parlsey, onion and a little nutmeg and serve with applesauce like latka or potato pancake

Top with grated cheese, I like parmesan or a sharp cheddar

Use your imagination, left over ham or corn or....

YOUR INPUT CONTINUES TO MAKE A MEANINGFUL IMPRESSION ON THE COMMISSIONERS' COURT.THE COURT HAS RESCHEDULED THE PITRES' DATE ON THE AGENDA TO 4/14, AT WHICH TIME COMMISSIONERS WILL VOTE YES OR NO ON JUDGE BISCOE'S PROPOSED PLAN.Background:Tecolote Farm has been providing locally-grown, organic vegetables to the Austin area since 1993. It is a vital part of and gives much value to our community. Recently they have suffered a water crisis. Water levels in Tecolote Farm's well dropped dramatically, and then went completely dry, soon after Travis County installed nearby high-production wells used to water recreation fields a few miles away. At first, Travis County officials indicated that if they had caused the problem, they would help fix it. Since that time, several highly-qualified hydrogeologists, including ones with extensive experience in studying and working with the local aquifer at issue have confirmed what Tecolote has always known: that the high-volume pumping by the County was at least a significant contributor of what has happened to Tecolote's water supply. Tecolote Farm is just asking for access to the groundwater that they always had, and they are willing to exchange that access for providing produce to County Jail inmates.This coming Tuesday, April 14, the Travis County Commissioners' Court will be considering Judge Biscoe's plan to help solve a problem that they (at least in part) created. This is where your input is needed and we urge you to act via the following options: Option 1. Email the Travis County Commissioners If you have not already sent emails about this issue letting all of the Commissioners, especially Commissioners Eckhardt and Davis, know how important it is to you that the County step up to the plate and help solve preserve this local farm, this is the last week to do so.
