Weds. Oct 22nd & Weds. Oct 29th please join us as we celebrate our bountiful harvest of locally grown seasonal vegetables, fruits and meats. Festivities on Oct. 22nd will include free pumpkins for the children while supply lasts, vegetable cake walk, gardening and spinning wheel demonstrations and healthy activities for the children and adults. On Oct 29th we will have our pumpkin cook off, pumpkin carving contest, crazy hat competition. Free samples from the vendors. See you there!

This Weekend in Manor

Manor Lions Fish Fry is Friday July 11th at Lions Hall on Lexington from five until they run out of fish.

Manor Lions Golf Tournament is Saturday at award winning Shadow Glen Golf course. All proceeds go to support Lions Schholarships to the students of Manor.

Greater Manor Chamber of Commerce is hosting Movies in the Park at Jennie Lane SmartPark downtown Manor starting at dusk. Refreshments available for a nominal fee.

Free Qi Gong

Starting this Wednesday, May 7th and continueing the first Wednesday of each month, we will have free Qi Gong exercise classes at the market. Qi Gong is similar to Tai Chi. This event is sponsored by Aiki Healing of Manor. We have vegetables galore! Come on by.

Manor Lions Fish Fry Friday

Manor Lions Club Fish Fry tomorrow, Friday May 2nd from 5 'til they run out of fish. Come on down to Lions Hall on Lexington Avenue for hand battered fresh catfish, homemade coleslaw & pinto beans, potatoe wedges, hushpuppies and an iced tea for only $7.50. The ladies sell slices of cake and coffee for 50 cents each. Come visit with you neighbors and enjoy a great meal at Lions Hall in downtown.

The Elusive Vegetable Farmers
My daughters and I started the Manor Farmers’ Market, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, almost two years ago, with a great deal of help and support from Stan Voelker then President of the Manor Chamber of Commerce. We thought since Manor being a traditionally farming & ranching community it would be an easy fit. Well, all these huge vegetable gardens you see out here, they give the vegetables away if they grow too much.
So here I am once again at the beginning of the vegetable season looking for the elusive vegetable farmer. I know you are out there. Just today an elderly couple, Bernard and Gladys, told me not only have the same people been buying their eggs for twenty years but when they grow too much they simply put a sign on the fence in front of their home. Hummm.... There is a local man whose wife is a retired Manor postal worker. Every year I stop by to admire his melon patch and casually bring up the farmers market. Not yet. There is Mr. J right down my street, whose wife, children and grandchildren have all participated in the market. When I spy him out working his field I stop by suggesting he could make back the money he spent on seed. Alas, to no avail.
I know you are out there. You can trade broccoli for beer soap. Parsnips for pickles. Discuss what is currently eating your cabbages or roses. We have a cute little cubicle for your cumbersome cucumbers, a place for you plethora of parsley, room to relieve you of your rampant radishes Enjoy an afternoon of conversation with neighbors and friends in our lovely park. Come on by!
