Also, the Fish Fry has been moved to June 4th due to Rupert's auction at Lions Hall this Saturday.
Colmar Farm is returning. Tom will be bringing Swiss Chard, onions, lettuce, beets, relishes and preserves.
Burt's Texas Garden: This week, we will have NEW POTATOES and GREEN BEANS! We will also have some more of our delicious LETTUCE, FRESH HERBS, and SPRING ONIONS. In the canned goods department, we will have Strawberry Spread, Jalapeno Jelly, Cabernet Wine Jelly, Bread and Butter Pickles, Chow-Chow, Pickled Beets, and Farm Fresh Eggs.
LAVERNE'S VEGETABLE PATCH - this week I will have COUNTRY FRESH EGGS AND HOMEMADE SALSA.
Gordon says he has tons of carrots, chard and onions. Shaye will have tomatoes.
I must point out that we have tomatoes & lettuce at the same time. Very unusual for Texas. If you had the chance to get some bacon from Lions/Ag Students here is your chance for local, sustainable, delicious BLT's on Rebecca's home made bread.
Manor Lions Club will be selling pork raised by the Manor High School students. The students got the pigs in October and fed them a ration of show feed. The pigs were not treated with growth hormones or antibiotics. The hogs were well kept in clean, open air pens. These are not factory raised animals. The last 45-50 days the pigs were fed corn to put on weight and add flavor to the meat. Come purchase some wholesome meat for your family and support our Manor High School Ag students and the Manor Lions Club.
Ray the Noodle Man will have homemade Texas Wendish Heritage Society noodles for sale. Just like his Momma used to make.
Mata Tamales: Three generations of the Mata family come together to make tamales for Manor. To the market they will bring chicken, pork or bean and cheese tamales. Special orders for jalapeno cheese or beef may be made in advance by calling 517-1441.
Bloorhouse is back this week with all of her lovely soaps, creams and lotions. Rebecca is also baking bread for the market.
Goodwin Homestead, A Wild Soap Bar & Munkebo Farm won't be at the market this week but will be back next week.
Market recipe: Green beans, potatoes, bacon, onions: Southern Green Beans & Potatoes. Render bacon, remove. Saute onions til brown around the edges, remove. Cut potatoes in half lengthwise. Place potatoes cut side down in fat and cook until well browned. Add a handful of green beans per person and chicken stock to within one inch of top of vegetables. Return bacon and onions. Add a couple grates of nutmeg, a dash of crushed red and black pepper. Cover & simmer gently. Sometimes I cook this all afternoon and sometimes we eat it with the beans barely tender. Enjoy!
Thank you to all the Manor businesses that make this market possible and help keep Manor money in Manor: Manor Veterinarian Hospital, Jonse Farmers Insurance, Manor Chamber of Commerce and the East Rural Community Center.
