ERCC Garden Party Project

The ERCC Garden Party Project will have regularly scheduled work days on the first Saturday of the month, beginning April 3rd. At each work day we will have a topical demonstration at 9:00 a.m. and then on to the project(s) for the rest of the morning. You may contact Denise LoSchiavo at manager@manorfarmersmarket.org , go to the market blog for the most recent information or contact Dick Peterson(info@dickpeterson.com) to find out just when we will have a topic of interest. Starting April 3rd we are building one or two 3'x3' Salad Gardens on legs which will be used by seniors with limited mobility. These will be chair height so gardening can be done from a seated position. Future topics include compost bins from pallets (two underway now), rotary composter from a barrel, compost tea making, vermiculture, hypertufa construction techniques, keyway round gardens (a permaculture concept), herb spirals, purple martin houses from gourds, rainwater harvesting, Build a Barrel Workshop, bowling ball mosaic gazing balls and maybe more, depending on interest.

This Saturday to entice you to come, a demonstration taking any old concrete garden ornament and turning it into and expensive looking treasure that imitates the look of English or European weathered cast metal. This is easy and fun. So we have enough time, I will start this special part of the day at 8:30 a.m. If you have a small concrete object (it also works on fiberglass or resin) you would like to convert, bring it along! I will use a turtle or a rooster for the demo (or maybe YOUR treasure). I also have a kid's sandbox on legs to make into a cut and come again salad garden. This should be fun even if it drizzles early in the morning.

Our standard rain date for this monthly event will be the following Saturday, but you should always confirm to be sure.

The Senior Gardeners are also scheduled to work with on Monday mornings from 9-11 a.m. They will be able to work their spaces anytime, but at least they know when we will be there for questions and to look at problems in their garden. You are invited to these Monday morning events if it helps with your busy weekend schedule. I am sure the gardeners will appreciate any assistance. In fact, they are at the Community Center next door M-W-F for their Congregate Meals program. If you would like to volunteer any of those days, let us know.

We are at 600 W. Carrie Manor Street, behind the Manor Library. We are next to the railroad tracks, about 3 blocks West of FM 973, in greater downtown MANOR, TEXAS. Ben E. Fisher Park is at the end of the street. Join us, learn something new and earn volunteer hours helping start our 16+ gardens.

The Garden Party Project is a project of the Manor Farmers' Market which provides vegetable gardens to local schools and community. Giving Manor fresh vegetables one plot at a time. We are a 501(c)3 IRS nonprofit organization. Information on the Garden Party Project can be readily obtained on the Manor Farmers' Market website blog www.manorfarmersmarket.org.
