New Saturday Market Begins May 29!

We're starting another farmers' market in Manor! This market will be in addition to the Wednesday downtown market. The new market will start this Saturday at 3pm and go until 7pm. The location will be Manor New Technology High School on 290. The address is 10323 U.S. Highway 290.

We are very happy to offer this opportunity to those of you who are unable to make the Wednesday market. If you know of anyone that may want to participate, please let them know.

For the Saturday Market this week, so far we have: peaches, berries, beets, carrots, loads of all kinds of squash, green beans, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, onions, cucumber, cabbage, chard, magenta spreen ( a beautiful plant that was once used for make-up, spinach family) and fresh herbs. We will also have farm fresh eggs from happy healthy chickens. Our central Texas farmers are from Cele, Dimebox, Mexia, Chriesman and two from Manor.

Goodwin Homestead of Manor will offer her sparkling hand made stained glass mosaics. Beautiful in the garden or in a window with the sunlight shining through. Plus lovely, hand knitted and felted 100% wool purses. No two are alike. Each purse is uniquely embellished with hand embroidery.

Handmade by Hartley will be at the new market with all of her handcrafted home decorations, quality greeting cards and all sorts of colorful knickknacks, doodads and thingamajigs.

The Gardeners Feast will be serving organic masa tamales in vegan, vegetarian or with meat. Also, organic blue corn gorditas and blue corn tortillas. Adrian has the Mexican restaurant across from Manor Grocery and uses locally sourced produce and cheese whenever possible.

Manorite Volkmar, The Spud King as he likes to be called, will be at the market making German potato pancakes for us with apple sauce and/or sour cream, bratwurst on a bun and Goulash. Volkmar will have cold drinks for sale too.

There will be shade, cold drinks, tables and chairs at the market. Denise is still looking for music if you know someone....

Burt's Texas Garden: Hey y'all! This week, we will have Spinach and Turnips. In addition, we'll have Bread and Butter Pickles, Pickled Beets, Chow Chow, Jalapeno Jelly, and Farm Fresh Eggs. Stop by and see us!

Laverne’s Vegetable Patch - This week will have salsa, perfect for the tamales, and eggs.

ColMar Farm: I will bring some mustard greens, fresh onions, Swiss chard, herbs, spring mix lettuce, spinach, canned goods, homemade cookies, eggs and a good time to be had by us all.

Our Newest Farmer: Gordon Taylor hails from lovely Cele, Texas. This week Gordon will be bringing cabbage, broccoli, spinach, carrots, green onions, kale, collards and Swiss chard.

Edendell Farm will be back next week.

The Tamale Lady: Or her grandson with Chicken or Pork tamales made right here in beautiful downtown Manor.

Ray the Noodle Man: Homemade Texas Wendish Heritage Society Noodles. Raymond will also start bringing more of his mother's recipes offering regular cottage cheese, cottage cheese with cranberries or caraway. Free samples.

Kala's Kuisine: Will be hosted by Georgia while Kala is out of the country, offering a wide variety of sweet to very hot salsas and chutneys: Curry-Tabasco, Mango Chutney, Chutney Salsa, Mirchi-Masala & Curry -Chipotle Salsa. Stop by for a bite!!!

Edendell Farm: Our NEWEST farm joining the Manor Farmers' Market family is located 1 hour east of Austin Texas off highway 21, CR 403. "This time of year we offer “greenhouse grown” hydroponic Green Peppers which are a dark green medium size pepper with lots of flavor and nutrition. This is important distinction for the discerning shopper. The nutritional content and quality of organic produce depends upon the quality and health of the soil in which is grown. Product quality it is not just about being pesticide free. Simply having the label “organic” does not guarantee that the soil in which it is grown is adequate. Hydroponic is the technical name for plants that grow in “nutrient balanced” water systems which allow the plant to “take up” the maximum nutrient needed by the plant. That is why, in comparison to the light green look of typical green peppers (both organic and conventional) Edendell Peppers are a lush dark green. Try us! We also grow Tomatoes and will be looking forward to our first “vine ripe” harvest in late February."

Kala's Kuisine: Kala is always whipping up something new and different. I like to call it Near East/Southern fusion, her black eyed pea salad for New Years was divine. Stop by her booth for samples. Zippy Salsas, Spicy Chutney and a variety of hot sauces. Momos, Samosas, salads, hummus and pesto.This week try her Rice Noodle salad with cabbage, tofu, carrot, bell pepper, tomatoe & spices. Merry Market Basket Winner

Kris Lloyd, a life long resident of Manor, was the big winner of our Merry Market Basket. She teaches at Manor Elementary and helped Denise put vegetable gardens in the school there. Kris also runs the after school program Project Mustang at Manor Elementary. Terra of Goodwin Homestead is selling cookbooks at the Market compiled by Kris and her students.

Seems like a good fit.

Any of you see the movie Fresh this weekend? Several of us Manor marketeers went to see it Saturday night in support of Edible Austin's Eat Local Week. Buy from your local family farms, know your farmers, know your food.

This week at the Market you'll find:

Burt's Texas Garden: Ahhh, Mother Nature! As expected, the hard freeze the other night wreaked havoc on our gardens. We were able to harvest the remainder of our Tatuma and Zucchini squash and Hot Peppers beforehand though. So, this will be the last week for each of those items. We still have plenty of the cold-weather-loving turnips and turnip greens, mustard greens, lettuce, broccoli, collard greens, radishes, and new for this week CABBAGE. Also, as we had to harvest all of our still-green tomatoes, we have a new batch of CHOW-CHOW made up. In addition, we'll have the usual fare of Dill Pickles, Pickled Beets, and Jalapeno Jelly.

Laverne's Vegetable Patch-This week finds the patch with homemade salsa and home grown country fresh eggs. There will also be several bouquets of flowers from the patch.

Burt's Texas Garden: It almost feels like fall this week! On our market table, we will have Yellow Squash, Zucchini Squash, Tatuma Squash, Turnip Greens, Turnips, Swiss Chard, Mustard Greens, Lettuce, Radishes, Broccoli, and Hot Peppers. In addition, we'll have Dill Pickles, Pickled Beets, Jalapeno Jelly, and Farm Fresh Eggs. We are sold out of Chow-Chow for the rest of the season.

Richardson Farms: All natural, humanely raised beef, pork and poultry from their family farm in Rockdale. Sausages: Italian hot or sweet, breakfast in link or pan, smoked beef or pork. Chops, ribs, steaks, cutlets, ground meats and roasts. Truly exceptional quality while supporting the local ranchers and economy.

Kala's Kuisine: I will bring all my award winning salsa's, Almondaise, hummas, cilantro chutney, curry sauce and always the samosa and momo's. These are my standard products. I do not know if you knew that I got 9 awards on my salsa's this years hot sauce contest. 5 in Austin, 2 in Houston and 2 in Alberkerky. Curry-chipotle got first place, Mirchi-masala got first place and curry tabasco got second place and mango chutney got third place on all the events. That is why I said award winning salsas.
