Spaces will be approximately 6'x8'. We will be limiting the quantities of "same type" vendors, so that the event will offer a nice variety of goods.
We are also requesting that vendors donate a door price for raffle.

Karen Banks is a graduate student at UT working on a food assessment of the Central Texas region. She is analyzing the capacity of the region to meet the food needs of its residents. To do this, she is hosting a series of roundtable discussions with farmers about the state of agriculture in Central Texas to talk about challenges farmers face to sustain a viable business and what makes agriculture in this region unique. The group will also be brainstorming ideas for how to strengthen the local food system. Jules Assata from Shades of Green Farm will facilitate the discussions.
The first roundtable will be in Elgin on September 9th from 1-3:30p. It will be at the First National Bank on 290. Attached is a flyer with more information. If you know any farmers or livestock producers in Bastrop county that would be interested in attending, please pass this information along to them.
Hope to see you there,
Stacey

The old Environmental Mills on Highway 290 just east of Old Kimbro Road is under new ownership. They are offering free mulch for the taking. There is a sign on the south side of 290 that says "Free Mulch" just before their drive way. Pull in and look to your right there is a big box of mulch. Load it up and take it home. Frank Touissant, our local bee keeper, has had 18 colonies survive the winter! That's up 30% compared to the last three years' average. He expects to have fresh local honey for sale by June. Frank is very optimistic about having enough honey to go through the year without running out. He'll rejoin the farmers market just as soon as the honey's ready. Stay tuned.Tuesday, March 9, 2010

We Give Thanks For Our Abundance
As winter sets in this holiday season, we're all hoping that we can keep eating local foods. We're thankful here in Central Texas that we can find fresh broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, winter squash, kale, peas, mustard greens, cauliflower, carrots, turnips, lettuce, spinach, leeks and more. Beyond fresh produce there's always local eggs, dairy products, honey, meats, beans, grains, jams, pickles, and other home canned or dried goods. By focusing our attention on preparing and eating these winter foods over the coming months we deepen our connection to the natural flow of the seasons and to the earth itself. As Thanksgiving approaches, we give thanks for our abundance and for the ongoing support so many people are giving to family farmers, even in these hard economic times. Your growing commitment to creating a sustainable food system is one of the blessings for which we are truly grateful. We hope that at least a few local foods find their way to your holiday feast this year.
The Manor Farmers Market would like to extend a Texas sized thank you to all of our loyal patrons. May your tables be well stocked and your hearts full of gratitude. Eat well. Eat local. Happy Thanksgiving!
