New Saturday Market Begins May 29!

We're starting another farmers' market in Manor! This market will be in addition to the Wednesday downtown market. The new market will start this Saturday at 3pm and go until 7pm. The location will be Manor New Technology High School on 290. The address is 10323 U.S. Highway 290.

We are very happy to offer this opportunity to those of you who are unable to make the Wednesday market. If you know of anyone that may want to participate, please let them know.

For the Saturday Market this week, so far we have: peaches, berries, beets, carrots, loads of all kinds of squash, green beans, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, onions, cucumber, cabbage, chard, magenta spreen ( a beautiful plant that was once used for make-up, spinach family) and fresh herbs. We will also have farm fresh eggs from happy healthy chickens. Our central Texas farmers are from Cele, Dimebox, Mexia, Chriesman and two from Manor.

A Wild Soap Bar is a Manor family owned, local micro-business serving up wildly aromatic, truly natural native soaps & body balms for your ultimate bathing pleasure since 1995. AWSB products are sold at Whole Foods, Central Market, select HEB's and fine boutiques across the country. But you can take advantage of their special discounted farmers market prices right here in Manor! Use the contact form on the website to order any item for special delivery to the market or simply browse their weekly selection when you get there. The Soap Bartender would absolutely love to meet you, so stop by and say hello.

Goodwin Homestead of Manor will offer her sparkling hand made stained glass mosaics. Beautiful in the garden or in a window with the sunlight shining through. Plus lovely, hand knitted and felted 100% wool purses. No two are alike. Each purse is uniquely embellished with hand embroidery.

Handmade by Hartley will be at the new market with all of her handcrafted home decorations, quality greeting cards and all sorts of colorful knickknacks, doodads and thingamajigs.

The Gardeners Feast will be serving organic masa tamales in vegan, vegetarian or with meat. Also, organic blue corn gorditas and blue corn tortillas. Adrian has the Mexican restaurant across from Manor Grocery and uses locally sourced produce and cheese whenever possible.

Manorite Volkmar, The Spud King as he likes to be called, will be at the market making German potato pancakes for us with apple sauce and/or sour cream, bratwurst on a bun and Goulash. Volkmar will have cold drinks for sale too.

There will be shade, cold drinks, tables and chairs at the market. Denise is still looking for music if you know someone....

As always, the Manor Farmers' Market is looking for more local farmers, craftsmen, prepared food vendors, artisans and community members to participate in our endeavor to bring fresh, locally grown food to our residents. Call Denise LoSchiavo at

Downtown Market Goodies for May 26

Remember to check out the new 290 Manor Farmers Market this Sat. in the New Tech High School parking lot from 3-7pm! This week at the downtown market we'll have:

Frank the Honey Man is returning to the market with his first batch of spring wild flower honey. It was a good winter for Frank's hives with 18 surviving. This honey is a little darker than last spring because there is so much horsemint this year. Horsemint aka wedding cake flower is the wildflower you see that has one long stem and separate round bunches of flowers all the way up. Colors are from white to purple. Smells like, well, mint. Once you know what it is you'll see it everywhere this year.

Burt's Texas Garden: This week, we will have Zucchini, Potatoes, Herbs, Beets, and Onions. In the canned goods department, we will have Jalapeno Jelly, Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Jelly, Chow-Chow, and Pickled Beets. No eggs this week.

Munkebo Farm will have potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes, magenta spreen (spinach family), carrots, onions, chard, oregano, cucumbers, dried herbs, Piedmontese beef, duck eggs, sesame ginger dressing, balsamic vinaigrette, hummus, artichoke dip, organic blueberry pie, cherry pie and organic apple pie

Gordon will have a whole bunch of carrots, sweet onions, lot's of potatoes, a ton of couple varieties of squash, some tomatoes and chard. Homemade pickled beets, apple butter and blackberry jam.

Ray the Noodle Man will have homemade Texas Wendish Heritage Society noodles for sale. Just like his Momma used to make.

Laverne & Bloorhouse are combined this week with yellow squash, blackberries, salsa, homemade bread & farm fresh eggs from happy healthy chickens.

Mata Tamales: Three generations of the Mata family come together to make tamales for Manor. To the market they will bring chicken, pork or bean and cheese tamales. Special orders for jalapeno cheese or beef may be made in advance by calling 517-1441.

Kala's Kuisine: will be at the market offering Mo Mos, Samosas, rice noodle salads, hummus and pesto in addition to her sauces from very hot to sweet. Curry-Tabasco, Mango Chutney, Chutney Salsa, Mirchi-Masala and Curry- Chipotle Salsa. Stop by for a sample.

A Wild Soap Bar LLC: Located on Union Lee Church Road...serving up truly natural native Texas soaps, body balms, and eco-friendly gift sets since 1995. Take advantage of our discounted Farmes Market prices! Use the contact form at http://www.awildsoapbar.com by 10am Wed. morning to order anything on the website for delivery to the Market OR browse our fragrant weekly selection when you get there. Stamp out fake evil corporate soap...lather up with a wild soap bar! This is our last week at the downtown market in Manor, but we'll be at the new market opening this Sat. at the New Technology High School on 290 from 3-7pm.

The Goodwin Homestead will have stained glass mosaics for home and garden and felted coin purses (100% wool).

Thank you to all the Manor businesses that make this market possible and help keep Manor money in Manor: Manor Veterinarian Hospital, Jonse Farmers Insurance, Manor Chamber of Commerce and East Rural Community Center.

New Saturday Manor Farmers Market!

Have you heard? Manor Farmers Market is opening a second market every Sat. from 3-7 pm in the Manor New Tech High School parking lot on Hwy 290! A handful of farmers and several prepared food vendors and local artisans have already signed up and we expect this market to grow rapidly due to its high visibility.

We're thrilled to provide the citizens of Manor and the surrounding area with one more opportunity to "buy local."

If you could have the market anywhere in Manor where would that be?
If the market were to start at 5pm and stay open until 8pm would you still come, be more likely to attend or not come at all?
Suggestions?

Also, the Fish Fry has been moved to June 4th due to Rupert's auction at Lions Hall this Saturday.

Colmar Farm is returning. Tom will be bringing Swiss Chard, onions, lettuce, beets, relishes and preserves.

Burt's Texas Garden: This week, we will have NEW POTATOES and GREEN BEANS! We will also have some more of our delicious LETTUCE, FRESH HERBS, and SPRING ONIONS. In the canned goods department, we will have Strawberry Spread, Jalapeno Jelly, Cabernet Wine Jelly, Bread and Butter Pickles, Chow-Chow, Pickled Beets, and Farm Fresh Eggs.

LAVERNE'S VEGETABLE PATCH - this week I will have COUNTRY FRESH EGGS AND HOMEMADE SALSA.

Gordon says he has tons of carrots, chard and onions. Shaye will have tomatoes.

I must point out that we have tomatoes & lettuce at the same time. Very unusual for Texas. If you had the chance to get some bacon from Lions/Ag Students here is your chance for local, sustainable, delicious BLT's on Rebecca's home made bread.

Manor Lions Club will be selling pork raised by the Manor High School students. The students got the pigs in October and fed them a ration of show feed. The pigs were not treated with growth hormones or antibiotics. The hogs were well kept in clean, open air pens. These are not factory raised animals. The last 45-50 days the pigs were fed corn to put on weight and add flavor to the meat. Come purchase some wholesome meat for your family and support our Manor High School Ag students and the Manor Lions Club.

Ray the Noodle Man will have homemade Texas Wendish Heritage Society noodles for sale. Just like his Momma used to make.

Mata Tamales: Three generations of the Mata family come together to make tamales for Manor. To the market they will bring chicken, pork or bean and cheese tamales. Special orders for jalapeno cheese or beef may be made in advance by calling 517-1441.

Bloorhouse is back this week with all of her lovely soaps, creams and lotions. Rebecca is also baking bread for the market.

Goodwin Homestead, A Wild Soap Bar & Munkebo Farm won't be at the market this week but will be back next week.

Market recipe: Green beans, potatoes, bacon, onions: Southern Green Beans & Potatoes. Render bacon, remove. Saute onions til brown around the edges, remove. Cut potatoes in half lengthwise. Place potatoes cut side down in fat and cook until well browned. Add a handful of green beans per person and chicken stock to within one inch of top of vegetables. Return bacon and onions. Add a couple grates of nutmeg, a dash of crushed red and black pepper. Cover & simmer gently. Sometimes I cook this all afternoon and sometimes we eat it with the beans barely tender. Enjoy!

Thank you to all the Manor businesses that make this market possible and help keep Manor money in Manor: Manor Veterinarian Hospital, Jonse Farmers Insurance, Manor Chamber of Commerce and the East Rural Community Center.
